Patrick Mahomes saw the future and called his shot.
While many NFL fans were counting out the Kansas City Chiefs, the team’s franchise quarterback dug in and insisted that he would find a way to win Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.

“I decided we are going to win the Super Bowl,” Mahomes texted his wife, Brittany.
The Chiefs did win the Super Bowl, pulling off a thrilling come back to edge the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime in Las Vegas.
What makes Mahomes’ text so unbelievable is the timing.
He sent the message to his Brittany on January 5, more than a month before Super Bowl LVIII.
At that time, Kansas City was struggling to finish off a 2023 season that had been defined by frustration and uncharacteristic instability.
Many NFL experts wrote off the Chiefs, spending months wondering why Kansas City’s offense was off target and routinely criticizing Mahomes’ lack of dependable wide receivers.
A 20-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day was a low point in the season and occurred just days before Mahomes sent the “win the Super Bowl” text to his wife.
“I’ll see y’all in Vegas, I’m not done,” Mahomes later texted Brittany, who added exclamation points to his first text.

The Chiefs finished the regular season 11-6 and won the AFC West division.
But they didn’t receive the conference’s No. 1 seed and weren’t viewed as a Super Bowl favorite entering the playoffs.
Mahomes and his team had to beat the Miami Dolphins, then win tough games on the road in back-to-back weeks against the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens.
Even in the Super Bowl, Kansas City trailed 10-0 and was down in the fourth quarter against the 49ers.
Mahomes kept believing and believing.
He ended up winning Super Bowl MVP, while his Chiefs created a new NFL dynasty and Travis Kelce kissed Taylor Swift on the field during a wild celebration.

“This season was a special one!” Brittany posted on Instagram. “Through the ups and downs and all the doubters, never once did he doubt this team. He is a true leader and a team player.
“He continued to ask himself what he could do better to lead this team to the Super Bowl. I saw so much behind the scenes that I will forever be in awe of you as a person and a football player!”
Mahomes followed up that sweet tribute from his wife by replying “Love you babe!” with a heart emoji.
Brittany then posted her husband’s inspirational texts for the world to see.
Mahomes was a champion again, and he had refused to quit on his fans, his family and his team on the way to a historic dynasty.
