Bryson DeChambeau is one huge golf game away from meeting Taylor Swift.
And Brittany Mahomes.
The hottest golfer on the planet — who just won his second US Open in five years, sent a shaken Rory McIlroy into a mini-hiatus, and appeared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon — is now exchanging social media messages with Kansas City Chiefs superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
Mahomes, who is a huge NBA fan and avid golfer, clearly was impressed with DeChambeau’s perseverance at Pinehurst.
“GREAT bunker shot!” tweeted Mahomes, referring to the up-and-down that delivered a career-changing major victory for DeChambeau and painfully extended McIlroy’s 10-year drought.
Despite being everywhere at once and partying with fans, DeChambeau couldn’t ignore the public praise from the three-time Super Bowl winner and face of the NFL.
“You, me, and Trav Break 50, let’s go!” DeChambeau tweeted.
Mahomes couldn’t resist the invitation, either.
“Let’s do it!” responded Mahomes, tagging his superstar tight end Kelce in the process.
The exchange highlights the almost overnight transformation of DeChambeau, who’s evolved from one of the sport’s most loathed names into a fan favourite who can seemingly do no wrong.
“He is a worthy champion and exactly what professional golf needs right now,” McIlroy posted when offering his congratulations after his own heartbreak. “I think we can all agree on that.”
Once known for his focus on hitting bombs and trying to blast his way through the traditional golf world, even DeChambeau’s LIV status has been overlooked after he almost won the Masters and the PGA Championship before becoming the story of the US Open.
“Regarding the (par) 67 comment, you know, you mess up, I’m not a perfect person,” DeChambeau admitted before the 2024 Masters. “Everyone messes up.
“You learn from your mistakes and that was definitely one.”
Kelce also underwent a massive transformation in 2023, going from one of the NFL’s best tight ends to a worldwide name best known for being Swift’s boyfriend.
With Brittany also befriending Swift, seeing the duo cheering and dancing inside a packed suite at Chiefs games became a weekly viral sight.
Adding DeChambeau to the mix would crank the meter from 10 to 11.
“See you soon,” DeChambeau tweeted to Mahomes.
Fans soaked up the tease and loved the idea of seeing two NFL greats and the hottest golfer in the world hitting bombs on the same course.
In a divided golf world in which Tiger Woods can’t even make the cut anymore, DeChambeau has suddenly made the sport cool and fun again.
“Pick me up on the way? Thanks!!!” one fan tweeted.
“This might potentially be the greatest golf YouTube video ever!!” a second fan posted.
“I’m not gonna tell Travis what to do, but his is GF in London this weekend,” a third fan wrote.
The Chiefs open their 2024 NFL season against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens on September 5 at Arrowhead Stadium.
LIV’s next tournament is Friday through Sunday in Nashville.
